Why stop smoking?

Your health
Smoking is one of the main causes of preventable illness and premature death in the UK; one in every two smokers dies of a smoking related disease. You can reduce these risks if you quit smoking at any age.  If you stop smoking before the age of 35, your life expectancy is only slightly less than people who have never smoked. Even older people who have smoked for a long time will feel the benefits of stopping quite quickly. Sixty-five percent of people successfully quit with the help of specialist support. Only five percent succeed when they go it alone.

Friends and Family
Those who live with a smoker are far more likely to develop lung cancer and other smoking related diseases. Children are particularly at risk. Smoking while pregnant can cause premature birth and miscarriages and can also seriously harm the baby's physical and mental development.

Your bank account
A 20-a-day smoker can spend over £2100* on cigarettes in one year. Now think about how much money you would be saving if you stop permanently or what you could spend that money on instead. Stopping smoking is one of the best ways of taking back control over your money. * Based on average packet of 20 cigarettes costing £5.90.

Your looks
Smoking causes bad breath, wrinkles and stained teeth! It has been shown that smokers in their forties can have as many wrinkles as non-smokers in their sixties! The smell of stale smoke tends to linger - not just on people's clothing, but on their hair, furniture, and cars.
